SUMMARY:

The Medical Transport Specialist is responsible for safely transporting clients to and from medical appointments, day programs, and residential locations while providing compassionate, professional support throughout the transportation process. This position serves as an important liaison between clients, caregivers, and healthcare providers by ensuring timely arrivals, maintaining clear communication, and assisting clients with basic non clinical needs during transport. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and prior experience working in healthcare or clinical environments.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:

  • Safely transport clients to and from medical appointments, day programs, treatment facilities, and home locations in accordance with company policies and traffic regulations.
  • Assist clients entering and exiting the vehicle while ensuring their comfort and safety during transport.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, appointment schedules, mileage records, and incident documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, family members, healthcare staff, and supervisors regarding transportation schedules and client needs.
  • Ensure timely arrival and departure for all scheduled appointments and transportation assignments.
  • Monitor client wellbeing during transport and promptly report concerns, incidents, or emergencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and routine inspection of assigned vehicles.
  • Utilize basic medical terminology when communicating with healthcare providers and documenting transportation information.
  • Follow all HIPAA, confidentiality, and client privacy standards.
  • Assist with coordination of appointment scheduling changes or transportation updates as needed.
  • Ensures filing of all required medical documents in Credible within 48 hours of receipt, including MARs, Doctor Visit Forms (DVF), prescriptions, ect. 
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, safety procedures, and state transportation regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support client care and transportation operations.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

 

Maintains confidentiality of all information received regarding Friendship Community Care, Inc. and the clients. Conditions of confidentiality shall be in compliance with FCC’s Non Disclosure Policy and HIPAA Policies.

QUALITY ASSURANCE & COMPLAINCE: To adhere to the following and comply with all Quality Assurance and HIPAA procedures:

  • The Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures as read and discussed in the New Employee Orientation must be always followed. 
  • Consumer’s progress notes are maintained and completed daily or as needed on the appropriate forms. 
  • Consumer records must be maintained weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly. All information must be filed in consumers’ EHR as needed and updated as prescribed by funding sources.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. 
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required. 
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review.
  • Previous experience in healthcare, patient transportation, direct support, caregiving, or clinical settings preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, families, and healthcare staff. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA/privacy standards. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage schedules, and maintain punctuality. 
  • Ability to safely assist clients entering and exiting vehicles, including light physical assistance when necessary. 
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (can receive training upon hire).
  • Basic computer and mobile device proficiency for scheduling, communication, and documentation purposes.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency or high stress situations. 

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions, medical orders, policies, and procedures. Communicates clearly and professionally with clients, families, interdisciplinary team members, and external providers in one on one and small group settings. Able to document accurately and legibly in medical records and complete basic written correspondence related to client care and services.  

 

 

MATHEMATICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS: 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages and to create and interpret bar graphs. 

 

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to apply common sense reasoning to follow instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram formats and to address problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations.
