POSITION TITLE: | Pharmacy Courier (Driver) |
POSITION SUMMARY: | The Pharmacy Courier is primarily responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate delivery of prescription medications to patients and customers, as well as the transport of prescriptions and supplies between organizational sites, in strict compliance with Massachusetts law and all applicable state and federal regulations. This role ensures proper handling, documentation, identification verification, and signature requirements for prescription deliveries. In addition, this position supports organizational transportation for patients and other tasks as assigned by the Transportation Manager when needed. This position will require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) medical certification. This certification is required to support the operations of the Mobile Health Vehicle ensuring safety, professionalism, and compliance with all transportation regulations, and organizational policies. The Courier plays a critical role in supporting access to care, maintaining service continuity across sites, and upholding the organization’s commitment to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and quality care. |

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operate and safely drive a company vehicle to deliver prescription medications to patients and customers, and to transport pharmacy items between organizational sites, in accordance with Massachusetts law and all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Load and unload the van in a safe and secure manner, ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and proper handling of prescription medications.
- Complete scheduled pickup and delivery routes, as well as additional deliveries or site-to-site transportation as needed to support pharmacy operations.
- Obey all traffic laws and follow established transportation procedures, organizational policies, and CHCFC guidelines related to proper vehicle operation and safe driving practices.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections prior to operation to ensure the vehicle is in safe working condition.
- Ensure the van maintains adequate fuel levels and is kept clean, sanitary, and routinely washed to meet organizational and pharmacy standards.
- Promptly report any mechanical issues, safety concerns, accidents, or incidents involving the vehicle to the Transportation Manager.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, staff, and external contacts, maintaining a courteous, respectful, and service-oriented demeanor at all times.
- Accurately document mileage, delivery logs, signatures, and any vehicle-related expenses in accordance with pharmacy, transportation, and organizational requirements.
- Monitor vehicle inspection and registration renewal dates and notify the Transportation Manager at least two weeks in advance of expiration.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) medical certification to support operation of the Mobile Health Vehicle. This certification can be obtained after hire date and with the assistance of CHCFC.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Must be 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent is required
Skills:
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and make sound, autonomous decisions while performing courier and transportation duties.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate a motor vehicle on a daily basis, follow established delivery routes, and comply with all traffic laws, safe driving practices, and organizational transportation policies.
- Strong oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to patients, staff, and external contacts while maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.
- Professional, courteous, and service-oriented demeanor, with the ability to interact respectfully with patients, customers, and colleagues in a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to comply with Massachusetts law, Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy regulations, and organizational policies related to the delivery and handling of prescription medications, including confidentiality and documentation requirements.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and all applicable privacy and security standards.

- Flexibility, reliability, and attention to detail in responding to changing delivery schedules, regulatory requirements, and organizational needs.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The work may require some evening work hours as well as the ability to adjust work schedule to accommodate periods of extreme activity.
